Watch As A Giant Leopard Seal Goes Hunting For Penguin

One might think that the leopard seal was only named so because of it’s spotted coat and you’d be half right. But, it’s this animals ferocious nature that makes-up the other half of the equation. Leopard seals are truly ferocious and are very good hunters, they are the only member of the seal family that will hunt, kill and eat other seals.

Leopard seals use their powerful jaws and long teeth to kill smaller seals, fish, squid and shellfish. But what they really love and is their absolute favorite meal…are penguins. Their long, sharp teeth are well adapted for cutting and tearing prey. and like their namesake in Africa, they are awesome hunters and fierce killers.

These effective predators live in frigid Antarctic and sub-Antarctic waters, where they also eat penguins. They often wait underwater near an ice shelf and snare the birds just as they enter the water after jumping off the ice. They may also come up beneath seabirds resting on the water surface and snatch them in their jaws.

Watch as one hunts and catches his next meal…an unsuspecting penguin.
