Matt Carriker Of Demolition Ranch Has Something Special For Us Today…”Real” Dragon Skin Body Armor

This episode of Demolition Ranch was posted to YouTube on the 4th of July (yea ‘Merica) and Matt Carriker has a very special surprise for us, in the form of Dragon Skin body armor. Now, I did some research and there seem to be a lot of stuff written regarding this particular product.

Dragon Skin body armor, officially Pinnacle Armor’s SOV 3000, is a flexible body armor that was marketed at a premium, costing around $5000 for a complete set. Due to problems with military testing and certification, it is currently only available from online retailers or individual sellers.

The basic Dragon Skin vest for torso protection costs about $2,000 and the entire getup, which includes a protective collar, optional lightweight SAPI plates, an optional weight bearing rig, backpack plates, and an armored, take-it-with-you anywhere protective blanket, can run an individual more than $5,000.

This is what Wikipedia has to say :

Dragon Skin is a type of ballistic vest formerly made by the now-defunct company Pinnacle Armor, currently produced in Missoula, Montana by North American Development Group LLC available for public, law-enforcement and military customers. Its characteristic two-inch-wide circular discs overlap like scale armor, creating a flexible vest that allows a good range of motion and is intended to absorb a high number of hits compared with other military body armor. The discs are composed of silicon carbide ceramic matrices and laminates, much like the larger ceramic plates in other types of bullet resistant vests.
