Self Defense

Here’s Something I Would Have Never Thought Of: A 45-70 For ‘Self Defense’

Now, I really don’t want to rain on anybody’s parade, but while I do think a lever-action rifle chambered in 45-70 is an awesome rifle, using it for self-defense just might be a little over-kill. There are several different types of shotguns, pistols and carbines would be a better choice for home/self defense.

That is of course unless you live in the middle of the mountains and an occasional grizzly happens to knock on your front door, in that case a 45-70 would be an ideal choice to defend yourself and your home.

I chose the video below because the title caught my attention and also, because I do love the 45-70. So I thought ‘what the heck’ and decided to give it a look. It is very obvious that the young man likes his lever-action 45-70 and while the video was rather entertaining, I’m gonna have to disagree with using a $1900.00 big bore rifle for home and self defense.

If someone were to either sneak into your home through a window, or break-down your door in the middle of the night, it might be a little bit more practical to have a pistol in the nightstand next to your bed, than to try to get a full sized rifle out of the closet in a situation like that.

And (God forbid), you do have to shoot an intruder, chances are the bullet that size will punch through a wall or two after you fire it, causing real damage in your home, or apartment.

But I digress, you make-up your own mind as to what type of firearm is best suited for you to use to defend your home. Like I said, the video is very entertaining and the rifle and ammunition he’s using does make a pretty big mess of things, so take what I said with a grain of salt.
