Sadly, this seems to be another case of “suicide by cop”, the man was severely mentally ill, was in crisis and wanted to die.
Try as they might, even after usage of ‘non-lethal’ methods to pacify and contain the suspect, it came down to the guy getting his wish. This makes me very sad that it went down like this. I wonder, was there something that the police missed?
Did they exhaust all possible non-lethal options? All we have to go by is the officers’ own bodycam footage and since and video doesn’t lie and we weren’t there in the first place, we have to accept the results.
Here is a written description of what you’ll see and hear in the video below:
Lancaster, California — On Sunday, June 5, 2022, at approximately 1:40 PM, Lancaster Station deputies responded to a business in the 1800 block of West Avenue J in the city of Lancaster, regarding a suicidal person with a knife.
A male called 911 and made suicidal statements. The male was later identified as 51-year-old Ricky Jimenez. Upon arrival, deputies encountered Jimenez holding a knife in his right hand just outside of the location.
Deputies ordered him to drop the weapon, but he did not comply. Deputies fired a Taser and a 40MM deuce launcher at Jimenez, but they had minimal effect. Jimenez removed a pistol grip crossbow from his backpack, raised the crossbow in the direction of deputy personnel, and a deputy-involved shooting occurred.
Jimenez was struck by gunfire and dropped the crossbow next to him. Deputies approached and rendered medical aid to Jimenez until the arrival of Los Angeles County Fire Department paramedics.
Jimenez was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. There were no other persons injured during the incident. A knife and pistol grip crossbow were recovered at the scene.
