Here’s A Special Treat For All Of You ‘Lever-Gun’ Fans: The Bullard Rifle Chambered In .40-70 Caliber

I know it’s been over a year since Great American Outdoors has published anything and we’re sorry for that, but we are back on track now and doing our job, so enjoy the article!

I saw the video below this morning and I found it quite fascinating and very informative. I have never heard of a Bullard Gun, or, the Bullard Repeating Arms Company before. Even though I consider myself fairly knowledgeable when it comes to most firearms, so imagine my surprise when I saw the video below, I guess you’re never too old to learn something new.

Here is a description of the Bullard Repeating Arms Company:

The Bullard Repeating Arms Company was a firearm manufacturer that produced lever-action and single-shot falling block rifles in the late 1800s:

  • Production
The company produced 2,800 rifles from 1883 to 1890, including 1,700 large frame repeaters, 500 small frame repeaters, and 600 single shot rifles.

  • Cartridges
    The company used a variety of cartridges, including .32-40-150, .38-45-190, .40-70-232, .40-75-258, .40-90-300, .45-85-290, and .50-115-300.

  • Competition
The company faced stiff competition from other manufacturers, such as Winchester, Marlin, and Whitney.

  • Variations
The company produced many variations and special order rifles, including Schuetzen rifles with interchangeable triggers and detachable-in-interchangeable barrel rifles.

  • Promotion
The company promoted their rifles through magazine advertisements, printed media, and on the target range.

Despite their quality craftsmanship and smooth and fast actions, the company was forced to stop manufacturing their rifles due to fierce competition, which hurt their sales and profits. Today, Bullard rifles are desirable among collectors.

If you are one of those folks that has a ‘thing’ for guns of the old West, then I’m sure you will enjoy the video from this particular YouTube Channel “The Cinnabar”.
